The Texas Rangers have reclaimed first baseman Blaine Crim off waivers from the Colorado Rockies. Crim has been optioned to Triple-A Round Rock, while right-hander Carter Baumler was moved from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL to create a 40-man roster spot.
Crim, a 19th-round draft pick by the Rangers in 2019, was designated for assignment by the Rockies earlier this week. He made his MLB debut in 2025 and returned to Texas after being claimed away on waivers last year in the wake of the Merrill Kelly trade. In 2025, Crim hit .200/.270/.462 with five home runs in 74 plate appearances across 20 games for Texas and Colorado.
The 28-year-old first baseman has spent parts of the last five seasons in Triple-A, hitting .281/.370/.479 with 70 home runs in 1882 plate appearances. However, his entire Triple-A career has been in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League, and his overall minor league wRC+ is 113. His transition to a first-base-only player has limited his versatility and playing time opportunities.
Crim’s return to Texas gives the Rangers a familiar face and a potential depth option. He is in the second of three remaining minor league option years, allowing Texas flexibility to shuttle him between the majors and Triple-A as needed.
Meanwhile, Carter Baumler’s rehab from a right intercostal strain has been delayed, prompting his move to the 60-day IL. Baumler was acquired in the Rule 5 Draft by the Pirates from the Orioles before being traded to Texas. In four MLB appearances, he posted a 3.18 ERA with six strikeouts and six walks in 5 2/3 innings. His setback means he will not be eligible to return until at least the first week of June.
Baumler must remain on the Rangers’ active roster for at least 90 days this season, or Texas must keep him on the 26-man roster all of 2027 to retain his rights.
The Rangers now have time to evaluate Crim’s role and monitor Baumler’s recovery. The team remains in position to make further moves as the season progresses.
