The final roster includes 13 players making their first World Cup appearance, including goalkeepers Chris Brady of the Chicago Fire and Matt Freese of New York City, as well as defenders Max Arfsten and Alex Freeman.
The roster also features key MLS contributors such as Tim Ream of Charlotte FC and Chris Richards of Crystal Palace, despite Richards suffering an ankle injury that leaves his availability uncertain. Alejandro Zendejas, who had been on the outside of World Cup contention for much of the year, earned a spot due to strong performances with Club América over the past few months. His inclusion marks a reward for consistent form after a season of speculation.
Goalkeepers Diego Kochen of FC Barcelona and Andrew Kirk of the Philadelphia Union will join the team for training purposes only and are not on the final 26-man list. Meanwhile, players like Josh Sargent, Yunus Musah, and Patrick Agyemang missed out due to injury or lack of national team involvement.
The final roster must be submitted to FIFA by June 1st, after which only injury-related changes will be allowed up to 24 hours before the team’s opening match. The U.S. kicks off its World Cup campaign on June 11 in Mexico, Canada, or the U.S., depending on group placement.
The full roster will be officially announced on Tuesday, but for now, the stage is set for 26 players to represent the United States in its first World Cup on home soil in nearly a decade.
