The Miami Heat have officially converted guard Jahmir Young’s two-way contract into a two-year standard NBA deal, sources told Shams Charania of ESPN. The move comes after the team waived Terry Rozier earlier Friday to create the necessary roster spot. Young’s new contract includes a non-guaranteed salary for the 2024-25 season, but the deal allows him to be eligible for the playoffs.
Young, 22, has spent the 2023-24 season splitting time between the Heat and their G League affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce. In 49 total games across both teams, he averaged 10.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game. On the main roster, Young played in 14 games and averaged 5.6 points and 2.8 rebounds over 14.5 minutes per contest. His improved shooting efficiency, 40.7% from three-point range this season, has made him a valuable option off the bench.
The Heat waived Rozier, who was signed in December as a veteran backup point guard. Rozier played in 39 games for Miami this season, averaging 6.3 points and 2.3 assists. His $5.4 million salary for the 2024-25 season was a luxury tax concern for a team already over the cap. The move allows Miami to add Young to the active roster while shedding a contract that was becoming increasingly difficult to justify.
Young’s new deal is structured to give the Heat flexibility. The first year is non-guaranteed, and the second year is guaranteed only if the team reaches the playoffs. This structure aligns with Miami’s playoff-driven approach and gives Young a chance to prove himself in the postseason. The Heat have made it clear they are building for a deep run, and Young’s energy and versatility fit that vision.
With Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo sidelined for parts of the season, Young has shown he can contribute in a variety of roles. His ability to defend multiple positions and create for others gives Erik Spoelstra another piece to work with. Young’s 2.7 assists per game this season highlight his playmaking potential, and his 65.4% free-throw shooting adds a reliable scoring element.
The Heat now have 15 players under contract for the remainder of the season. They are expected to announce the move before the end of the day Friday. With the trade deadline behind them and the playoff push in full swing, Miami will look to Young to step up in the final stretch of the regular season.

The San Antonio Spurs edged the Dallas Mavericks 114-109 on Friday night, but the story was not the win. It was Victor Wembanyama’s 40-point, 13-rebound performance in just 26 minutes, a calculated move to reach the 65-game threshold required for regular-season award eligibility.
