Lithuania’s Zalgiris Kaunas is preparing to bolster its roster with the additions of guard Carsen Edwards and wing Maxwell Lewis. Both players are former NBA talents who have spent the last few seasons in European leagues and are now expected to join the reigning EuroCup champions for the 2024-25 campaign.
Edwards, a four-year veteran of European basketball, brings a wealth of experience to Zalgiris. After playing for Fenerbahce in Turkey and Bayern Munich in Germany, he spent the 2023-24 season with Virtus Bologna in Italy. During that campaign, he averaged 17.1 points per game across 72 contests in all competitions. His scoring ability and playmaking acumen will give Zalgiris a consistent offensive threat.
Maxwell Lewis, 6-foot-7, is also expected to sign with the club. The wing spent the last season split between Juventus in Lithuania and Tofas in Turkey. Over 55 combined games, he averaged 8.5 points on impressive 50/45/80 shooting splits. His efficiency and versatility on both ends of the floor should provide Zalgiris with a reliable perimeter presence.
Both players are expected to sign multi-year contracts, though exact financial terms have not been disclosed. Their arrival will add depth and firepower to a Zalgiris squad already loaded with talent. The team’s management has shown a clear strategy of building a core of experienced, high-level performers capable of competing in both the EuroLeague and domestic league.
For Virtus Bologna, losing Edwards will be a significant blow. The Italian club relied on his scoring and leadership last season, and replacing his production will be a challenge. Similarly, Tofas and Juventus will miss Lewis’s three-point shooting and defensive versatility.
Zalgiris is known for its aggressive approach in the transfer market, and this move continues that trend. The club is aiming to maintain its dominance in the Baltic region while making a deep run in European competitions. Edwards and Lewis will be key pieces in that pursuit.
The final details of the contracts are expected to be announced in the coming days. Once finalized, Zalgiris will begin training camp in preparation for the new season.
