New England Patriots 2026 Rookie Class: Lomu Anchors Line, Jacas Could Be a Steal

The New England Patriots made a strong statement in the 2026 NFL Draft by selecting Caleb Lomu in the first round and Gabe Jacas in the second, building around quarterback Drake Maye with versatile offensive and defensive playmakers. Lomu, a standout offensive tackle from Utah, is projected to be a solid starter early in his career, while Jacas, a tenacious edge rusher from Illinois, could become a breakout performer.

Lomu, picked in Round 1, brings elite pass-protection skills and quick feet that allow him to neutralize speed rushers. In college, he started over Spencer Fano and was a key part of Utah’s offensive line. Lomu recorded 74 tackles and eight sacks as a pass rusher in 2024, showing strong instincts and balance. While he needs to add strength for the NFL run game, his athleticism fits well in a zone-blocking scheme.

With veteran Morgan Moses set to start at right tackle in 2026, Lomu will likely compete with Will Campbell at left tackle. His ability to play multiple positions gives the Patriots flexibility. Lomu is expected to be a key part of the offensive line for years to come, especially with Maye and Campbell on low-cost rookie contracts.

Gabe Jacas, taken in the second round, was one of the top edge rushers in college football in 2025 with 11 sacks and 13.5 tackles for a loss. The Patriots believe Jacas can be a steal at his draft position, given his physicality, bull rush, and strip-sack instincts. He forced six fumbles in two seasons and showed the grit and leadership to impact games in multiple phases. While some question his hip flexibility and pure speed, Jacas' work ethic and versatility make him a potential Pro Bowl candidate.

Rounding out the class is Eli Raridon, a third-round tight end from Notre Dame. Raridon is a massive Y-TE with blocking upside and some receiving ability. He could develop into a solid No. 2 tight end alongside Hunter Henry. While not a projected starter, Raridon offers value as a developmental pick.

The Patriots' 2026 rookie class is among the most promising in the league. With Lomu anchoring the offensive line, Jacas pushing for a starting role on defense, and Raridon adding depth at tight end, New England has fortified its roster in key areas. As Maye enters his third season, this group could be the foundation of a playoff-contending Patriots team in 2027.
