Ted Hurst Projects as a Day-Two NFL Draft Pick with Big-Play Potential

Ted Hurst is emerging as one of the most intriguing wide receiver prospects in the 2026 NFL Draft. The 6-4, 206-pound Georgia State product brings a rare combination of size, speed, and ball skills to the table. Hurst's ability to stretch the field and make contested catches has drawn comparisons to Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and his senior season performance solidified his status as a potential second-day selection.

Hurst’s college production was explosive. After transferring from Valdosta State, he caught 56 passes for 961 yards and nine touchdowns in his first season at Georgia State in 2024. He followed that up with 71 receptions for 1,004 yards and six scores in 2025, averaging over 14 yards per catch. His 19.6-yard average as a true freshman at Valdosta State showed early promise and hinted at the big-play threat he would become.

Hurst’s straight-line speed and long strides allow him to create separation quickly and challenge defenses downfield. He excels on back-shoulder throws and uses his advanced body control to make difficult catches look routine. His 6-4 frame and 206-pound build give him a large catch radius and the ability to be a mismatch in the red zone and on vertical routes.

However, Hurst's lack of physicality after the catch is a concern. He does not play up to his size after making a reception and lacks the lower-body strength to break tackles consistently. While he tracks the ball well and has excellent hands, he is not a dominant force in contested catch situations. Improving his strength and contact balance will be key for his development in the NFL.

Hurst impressed scouts with his performance at the Senior Bowl and the NFL Combine, where he showcased his athleticism and upside. With the right coaching and strength training, he could develop into a reliable No. 2 or 3 receiver in the NFL.
