The Las Vegas Golden Knights edged the Carolina Hurricanes 4-3 in a wild Game Three of the Stanley Cup Final, fending off a stunning late comeback from the visitors to take a 2-1 series lead. Mitch Marner tallied a Stanley Cup Final-record hat trick in just 4:06 minutes, while Shea Theodore and Tomas Hertl also found the net for Vegas. Carolina’s Jordan Martinook, Taylor Hall and Seth Jarvis responded with a three-goal rally in 39 seconds to force overtime, but the Golden Knights held on for the win.
Marner’s historic performance came in the second period, as he scored three times in the span of 4:06 to give Vegas a commanding 4-0 lead. The Canadian star now leads all playoff scorers with 26 points, including 10 goals. His hat trick was the fastest in Stanley Cup Final history, with just 6:10 between the first and third goals. The Golden Knights’ high-octane attack overwhelmed the Hurricanes for most of the game, but Carolina’s late surge nearly erased the deficit.
The turning point came just after the start of the third period when the Hurricanes scored three goals in 39 seconds. Jordan Martinook opened the scoring with a goal at 1:42, followed by Taylor Hall at 1:42 and Seth Jarvis at 1:42, all within the same minute. The Hurricanes tied the game with 1:42 remaining in regulation, sending the game to overtime for the second consecutive night.
The Golden Knights maintained control of the game for most of the second period, outshooting the Hurricanes 16-12 and registering 14 shots on goal compared to Carolina’s five. Vegas also dominated in hits, recording 42 to 25, and won 52.9% of faceoffs in the first period. Carolina, on the other hand, held a 55% faceoff win rate through two periods.

Carolina’s power play struggled in the second period. Vegas killed off a penalty with nine seconds on the man advantage, and Tomas Hertl opened the scoring for the Golden Knights with a quick strike. The Hurricanes were unable to capitalize on their opportunities, especially during a crucial 5-on-3 advantage late in the second frame.

Goaltender Carter Hart made 26 saves in the win, including a clutch penalty shot stop on Marner early in the third period. Carolina’s Frederik Andersen was pulled for the game’s final stretch and was replaced by Brandon Bussi, but the change did not spark a comeback.
With the win, Vegas now leads the series 2-1 and will look to close out the Hurricanes in Game Four on Tuesday night at T-Mobile Arena. The Golden Knights have won two of the first three games and are just one win away from their first Stanley Cup in franchise history.
