
The Fort Wayne Komets dropped Game 3 of the Western Conference Final to the Kansas City Mavericks 6-4 at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum on Monday night. Kansas City now holds a 2-1 series lead as the best-of-seven series shifts back to the Mavericks' home ice.
Josh Bloom extended his playoff point streak with a goal just before the 12:42 mark of the first period, assisted by William Dufour and Austin Magera. The goal gave Fort Wayne an early lead, but momentum quickly turned in Kansas City’s favor.
The turning point of the night came in the second period when Blake Murray of the Komets drew a five-minute major penalty for slashing at 5:38. The Mavericks took full advantage, scoring twice on the ensuing power play. Kansas City added another goal later in the period to build a 5-2 lead after forty minutes.
Austin Magera responded for Fort Wayne at 17:01, cutting the deficit to three. But the Mavericks continued to dominate with a third-period goal at 16:00, extending their lead to 6-2. Jalen Smereck answered with a goal at 9:40, his second of the playoffs, to pull the Komets within two.
The game’s final goal came with a power play at 16:00 when William Dufour backhanded the puck past Mavericks goaltender Jack LaFontaine to make the final score 6-4. Dufour’s goal was his second of the game and third of the playoffs.

Nathan Day took the loss in net for Fort Wayne, finishing with 23 saves on 29 shots. LaFontaine turned aside 25 of 29 shots to earn the win.
The Mavericks outshot the Komets 29-25 and held a 34-22 advantage in faceoffs. Kansas City’s power play went 3-for-4 in the game, including two goals on the five-minute major penalty.
With the loss, Fort Wayne drops to 2-1 in the series and heads back to Kansas City for Game 4 on Thursday. The Komets will look to avoid a 3-1 series deficit as the Western Conference Final reaches a critical juncture.
