Connor McDavid has been voted the 2025-26 Ted Lindsay Award recipient by members of the NHL Players’ Association. The honor recognizes the most outstanding player in the league and marks McDavid’s fifth time winning the award.
McDavid expressed his gratitude after the announcement. “This award, coming from the guys that you play against every single night and battle against every single night, to have them recognize me with an award like this, means so much,” he said.
The Edmonton Oilers captain now joins Wayne Gretzky as the only players in history to win the Ted Lindsay Award five times. McDavid previously won the award in 2016-17, 2017-18, 2020-21, and 2022-23.
McDavid’s 2025-26 season was historic in multiple ways. He became the third-fastest player to reach 1,200 career points, achieving the milestone in 784 games, trailing only Gretzky (504 games) and Mario Lemieux (593 games). He also recorded his eighth season with at least 70 assists, tying Lemieux for second-most in NHL history behind Gretzky’s 15.
The Oilers star finished the season with 138 points (48 goals, 90 assists), winning the Art Ross Trophy for the sixth time. That total ties him with Gordie Howe and Lemieux for second-most in league history behind Gretzky’s 10.

McDavid received the award from his family and close friends in a surprise ceremony on a golf course. The other finalists for the 2025-26 Ted Lindsay Award included Macklin Celebrini of the San Jose Sharks and Nikita Kucherov of the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Celebrini set a Sharks single-season record with 115 points (45 goals, 70 assists) in 2025-26. Kucherov, a three-time TLA winner, remains one of the most decorated players in the league.
McDavid’s latest honor cements his place among the NHL’s all-time greats. He continues to lead the league in scoring and remains a key figure for the Oilers as they push for another Stanley Cup title.
