Mitch Marner has dropped enough hints that a full-blown exposé is brewing about his time with the Toronto Maple Leafs, and with the Stanley Cup Final underway, the world is waiting to see what he’ll say next.
Marner’s comments about “dark times” in Toronto and the support he’s received in Vegas have sparked speculation about what really went down during his tenure in the 606. With the Golden Knights preparing to take on the Carolina Hurricanes in the Final, Marner has remained tight-lipped but has suggested he’ll speak out in the coming weeks.
Jack Eichel has already chimed in, revealing that Marner has confided in him about his past experiences and that he believes Marner was treated unfairly in Toronto. “Mitch is a big boy. He’s got some scar tissue to show for it,” Eichel said. “I don’t like people saying bad things about him because I care about the guy.”
Eichel added, “As a teammate and a friend of his, and somebody that cares about him and his family, of course I do. I think the world of Mitch. Anybody that has negative or bad things to say about him, obviously I disagree with, because I think highly of him.”
GM Kelly McCrimmon also weighed in, noting that Marner’s success in Vegas is partly due to the team surrounding him. “He’s not being asked to do it all,” McCrimmon said. “That means he’s also not being blamed when he doesn’t.”

Marner has been open about the mental toll of his time in Toronto, calling it “a real mental grind.” Fans and analysts are already speculating about possible locker room tensions or management decisions that could have impacted his performance.
With Marner averaging 1.2 goals per game in the playoffs and leading the Golden Knights with 18 points in 16 postseason games, his focus is on the task at hand. But as the Final progresses, expect his past in Toronto to become a more prominent topic.
The Golden Knights and Hurricanes are set to face off in Game 2 on Thursday. With the series tied at one game apiece, Marner’s next steps on and off the ice will be closely watched.
