The New York Islanders have officially unveiled the Hamilton Hammers as their new American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, set to begin play in the 2026–27 season. The team will be based in Hamilton, Ontario, and will play home games at the newly revitalized TD Coliseum, which recently completed a $300-million transformation. The Hammers will compete in the AHL’s North Division.
The Hammers’ brand identity is deeply rooted in Hamilton’s industrial heritage. The logo features two crossed hammers, symbolizing the strength, grit, and unity of the community. The design reflects the city’s steel-working past and its enduring resilience. Bold, angular lettering gives the brand a modern, energetic look that aligns with Hamilton’s identity as “Steel Town.”
Subtle hockey puck details on the hammer heads pay homage to the New York Islanders’ iconic logo. The orange-and-blue color scheme is a direct nod to the Islanders’ classic team colors, reinforcing the connection between the AHL affiliate and the NHL club. The New York Islanders designed the logo in collaboration with Recess Creative, a Canadian creative agency responsible for the broader brand identity.
Nick DeLuco, senior vice president and general manager of TD Coliseum, expressed excitement about the new team. “The city of Hamilton can now unite as Hammers fans. We look forward to seeing the Hammers logo proudly represented across the city as we head into the season this fall. We’re excited for the energy and atmosphere this team will bring to TD Coliseum night after night.”
AHL President and CEO Scott Howson also shared enthusiasm for the new franchise. “We are excited to begin a new era of AHL hockey in the City of Hamilton. TD Coliseum is a first-class venue, and the partnership between the New York Islanders and Oak View Group – combined with the passionate support of the community – is sure to make the Hammers a success for years to come.”

This announcement follows the Islanders’ decision to relocate their AHL affiliate from Bridgeport to Hamilton. The move is part of a long-term agreement with TD Coliseum, which seats 18,000 fans and is now one of the premier sports and entertainment venues in Canada.
With the Hammers now officially on the board, the focus turns to the 2026–27 season, when Hamilton will welcome fans to see the new team take the ice.
