The NHL’s trade rumor season is in full swing, with Frank Seravalli’s latest offseason trade targets board spotlighting Morgan Rielly and Darnell Nurse as two of the most coveted names. The Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman and Edmonton Oilers blueliner ranked first and 12th respectively on Seravalli’s 25-player list, signaling a potential summer of blockbuster moves.
Rielly, who has spent his entire 10-year NHL career with the Maple Leafs, is facing mounting pressure amid Toronto’s push for a full roster rebuild. General Manager John Chayka emphasized the need for defensive upgrades during his introductory press conference, and with Rielly holding a full no-movement clause, his departure appears inevitable. The 32-year-old is under contract for four more seasons at $7.5 million per year, with a total remaining value of $30 million.
Nurse, a key piece of Edmonton’s defense since 2021, is also a top trade target. The 31-year-old is set to earn $9.25 million annually over the next four years, with $37 million remaining on his contract. His contract flexibility and defensive prowess make him a prime asset for contenders looking to bolster their blue lines.
Other notable names on the board include Vancouver’s Elias Pettersson, St. Louis’ Jordan Kyrou and Robert Thomas, and the Blues’ Jordan Binnington and Colton Parayko. Pettersson, Kyrou, and Thomas each have full no-movement clauses, giving them complete control over their futures.

Seravalli wrote: “When GM John Chayka hammered home the point in his introductory press conference that the Maple Leafs needed to dramatically improve on the backend, the clock started ticking on Morgan Rielly’s tenure in Toronto. Yes, after nearly 1,000 games all in a Maple Leafs sweater, the time is nigh for Rielly – which is why he tops Hockey 24/7’s first Trade Targets board of the 2026 NHL offseason.”
The Maple Leafs and Oilers are expected to be aggressive in the coming weeks, with Rielly and Nurse at the center of potential blockbuster deals. With the 2026 NHL Draft and free agency on the horizon, teams will look to reshape their rosters before the July 1 trade deadline.
