The Edmonton Oilers have added forward Aku Räty to their roster, signing the 24-year-old winger to a one-year, two-way contract for the 2026-27 season. The Finnish forward brings AHL experience and a strong showing in Finland’s Liiga, giving the Oilers depth options for the upcoming season.
Räty spent the 2025-26 season with Kärpät Oulu, his hometown club in Finland’s top league. Over 51 games, he recorded 20 goals and 37 assists for a total of 57 points, showcasing his offensive production at the professional level. His performance in Liiga highlights his ability to contribute in a top-tier European league.
Originally selected by the Arizona Coyotes in the fifth round of the 2019 NHL Draft, Räty has spent the majority of his professional career in the AHL. He has appeared in 120 games for Tucson and Rockford, tallying 21 goals and 48 assists for 69 points. His AHL production shows a consistent two-way presence, with the ability to contribute offensively and defensively.
The Oilers’ move adds a familiar face to their system. Räty made his only NHL appearance on April 17, 2024, playing for the Coyotes against the Oilers in Edmonton. That game gives the Oilers a scouting advantage, as they’ve already seen him at the NHL level.
Räty’s two-way contract means he can play at either the NHL or AHL level, depending on his performance and need. The Oilers are likely looking to give him a chance to compete for a roster spot while managing cap space. With a two-way deal, the team minimizes financial risk while maximizing flexibility.

The Coyotes lost Räty’s rights after failing to re-sign him. Arizona drafted him in 2019 but never gave him a long-term contract. By signing Räty, the Oilers acquire a player with NHL potential and European experience at little cost.
Räty’s contract is set for the 2026-27 season, meaning he will report to training camp in the fall. His performance in camp and early preseason games will determine whether he makes the Oilers’ opening-night roster or starts in the AHL.

The Vegas Golden Knights have shattered the NHL’s unwritten rules this season, proving that winning a Stanley Cup can take precedence over tradition, optics, and risk management. By making bold coaching changes, embracing a physical identity, and acquiring players like Mitch Marner and Carter Hart,
