The New York Yankees rallied for a 5-3 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium, powered by Amed Rosario’s two-homer performance, including a go-ahead three-run shot in the eighth inning.
Rosario, who entered the game after a 2-for-23 slump by third baseman Ryan McMahon, delivered in a big way. The 27-year-old shortstop hit his 10th and 11th home runs of the season, marking his third career multi-homer game. His eighth-inning blast off A's reliever Mark Leiter Jr. gave the Yankees a 5-3 lead and proved to be the difference in the contest.
Manager Aaron Boone made the bold move to start Rosario against right-hander Aaron Civale, a decision that paid off. Boone has long praised Rosario’s preparation and energy, noting how the shortstop stays ready despite limited playing time. “He is really good at doing what he needs to do to be ready every single day,” Boone said.
Leiter, who spent time with the Yankees last season, was on the mound when New York's rally began. Giancarlo Stanton ignited the inning with a single that scored Cody Bellinger, tying the game at 3. Two batters later, Rosario delivered the decisive blow with a 414-foot shot, per Statcast.
“This was a big night for him,” Boone said. “I just like seeing guys have success. It’s about the Yankees. You are invested in these guys, and you always get excited when they do well personally, too.”
The Yankees' dugout erupted in celebration as Rosario rounded the bases. Teammate José Caballero described the moment as a highlight. “We were all excited for him to come through at that moment,” Caballero said. “It’s great to have him on the team. He never has a bad day. He always has high energy.”
Rosario credited his teammates for the support and said he stays positive even when not in the lineup regularly. “Although I’m not playing every day, I try to not let that affect me mentally,” he said through interpreter Marlon Abreu. “Over the years, I’ve been able to create a routine to help me do my job.”
Boone confirmed that Rosario’s performance doesn’t necessarily mean more starts against right-handed pitching. “There are certain matchups I like him in,” the manager said. “There are a number of lefties coming up, so competition is always a good thing.”
The Yankees improved to 19-15 on the season, while the A’s fell to 14-21. New York will look to extend its winning streak when it hosts the Rays on Wednesday night.

The San Antonio Spurs edged the Dallas Mavericks 114-109 on Friday night, but the story was not the win. It was Victor Wembanyama’s 40-point, 13-rebound performance in just 26 minutes, a calculated move to reach the 65-game threshold required for regular-season award eligibility.
