The Toronto Blue Jays lost 4-1 to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday night at Rogers Centre, extending their losing streak to six games. Yoshinobu Yamamoto outdueled Kevin Gausman in a matchup of World Series heroes, and Toronto’s offense, already struggling, failed to capitalize on key opportunities.
Manager John Schneider’s fiery ejection in the fifth inning for arguing a balk call on Gausman was the loudest moment of the night. It was a visible expression of the frustration building for both the team and its fans. “Felt kind of nice to get a little frustration out,” Schneider said. “Definitely not a balk.”
The Blue Jays entered the game hitting just .198 as a team over their past six contests and had scored only 11 runs in that span. They managed only two hits off Yamamoto, who was electric as always. The Japanese ace allowed just two runs through six innings and struck out 10, continuing his dominance over Toronto. In the 2025 World Series, Yamamoto was named MVP after allowing just two runs across 17 2/3 innings.
Toronto’s offense showed little life all night. Even in a bases-loaded situation with no outs in the seventh, the Blue Jays could muster just one run. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Andrés Giménez were the only players with extra-base hits in the game. Guerrero, who is batting .237 with a .699 OPS on the season, has only one home run in his last 20 games.
The absence of key contributors like Alejandro Kirk, who is out for six weeks after thumb surgery, and the underperformance of George Springer, who is hitting .159, have left a void in the lineup. Daulton Varsho is batting .171 with a .504 OPS. Springer, Guerrero, and Varsho have combined for just 12 extra-base hits in 2026.
Schneider remains confident in his team’s ability to turn things around. “Our job is to remind them if needed, but we haven’t had to do that yet,” he said. “You try to be deliberately consistent every single day.”
The Blue Jays face a tough challenge in Wednesday’s finale against the Dodgers, who will send Shohei Ohtani to the mound. Toronto must find a way to break out of its offensive slump quickly if it hopes to avoid a three-game sweep.

The San Antonio Spurs edged the Dallas Mavericks 114-109 on Friday night, but the story was not the win. It was Victor Wembanyama’s 40-point, 13-rebound performance in just 26 minutes, a calculated move to reach the 65-game threshold required for regular-season award eligibility.
