The New York Yankees edged the Oakland Athletics 5-3 at Yankee Stadium behind a late rally fueled by Amed Rosario's two home runs and a strong start from Cam Schlittler before his 21-inning scoreless streak came to an end.
Schlittler entered the game with high expectations, having gone 2-0 with a 0.86 ERA in his first two starts of the season. But the cold 43-degree night and a resilient A’s lineup combined to break his streak in the third inning. After two straight scoreless frames, Schlittler allowed two runs on a clutch double by Nick Kurtz and a subsequent two-run double by Tyler Soderstrom, turning a 1-0 Yankees lead into a 3-1 deficit.
“I thought Cam was good. Not quite as dominant as his first two outings,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “Not quite as sharp command-wise. But he still didn’t have any walks. You think he is going to roll out there for seven innings, throw 75 pitches and strike everyone out. He realized it’s not that easy.”
Schlittler worked five innings total, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out seven batters. He threw 78 pitches and left the game with a 3-1 deficit. The Yankees would later erase that deficit in the eighth thanks to a two-run home run by Rosario, who finished the night 2 for 3 with four RBIs and two runs scored.
The A’s offense had its chances but struggled to capitalize beyond the third inning. Kurtz and Soderstrom were the only A’s with two hits apiece, while Schlittler held the rest of the lineup in check. The Yankees’ bullpen, including Nestor Cortes and Clay Holmes, worked three scoreless frames to preserve the lead.
The win improved New York to 10-7 on the season, while the A’s dropped to 6-11. With the AL East still tightly contested, every game matters, and the Yankees showed resilience after falling behind early.
The Yankees will look to extend their winning streak when they host the Athletics in the series finale Wednesday night. Luis Severino will take the mound for New York, while the A’s will turn to Danny Coulombe. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM ET.

The San Antonio Spurs edged the Dallas Mavericks 114-109 on Friday night, but the story was not the win. It was Victor Wembanyama’s 40-point, 13-rebound performance in just 26 minutes, a calculated move to reach the 65-game threshold required for regular-season award eligibility.
