The Atlanta Braves made a flurry of roster moves on Thursday, placing Michael Harris II on the paternity list and activating utilityman Luke Williams from Triple-A Gwinnett. To create a 40-man roster spot, left-hander Danny Young was moved from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL. Right-hander Daysbel Hernandez was also reinstated from the 15-day IL and optioned back to Gwinnett.
Williams returns to the majors for the third time this season after spending the last 80 games with the Braves. The 34-year-old has played for five MLB teams over 221 career games but has hit just .151/.213/.209 in 95 plate appearances this season. His value lies in his versatility, as he has seen action at all four infield positions, in left field, and even made a few pitching appearances in mop-up roles.
Harris II is expected to return to the active roster in a few days after celebrating the arrival of a new child. That timeline means Williams likely won’t remain on the 40-man roster for long. With no remaining minor league options, the Braves designated Williams for assignment multiple times last season to send him to Triple-A.
Young’s move to the 60-day IL was expected. The southpaw underwent Tommy John surgery in May and is not projected to return until at least July. The Mets non-tendered Young in November before the Braves signed him to a split contract with the understanding that he would eventually be moved to the 60-day IL.
Hernandez began the season on the 15-day IL due to a sebaceous cyst in his throwing shoulder. He was reinstated and immediately optioned back to Gwinnett. The righty has struggled this season, posting a 5.23 ERA in 13 appearances with Atlanta.
The Braves continue to monitor their depth as they head into a pivotal stretch of the season. Harris II is expected to return in the next few days, and Williams could be back in Triple-A by then. Atlanta will look to keep pace in the NL East as they prepare for a key matchup against the New York Mets this weekend.

The San Antonio Spurs edged the Dallas Mavericks 114-109 on Friday night, but the story was not the win. It was Victor Wembanyama’s 40-point, 13-rebound performance in just 26 minutes, a calculated move to reach the 65-game threshold required for regular-season award eligibility.
