St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Jordan Walker has transformed his career in 2026, leading the team to a surprising 29-23 start and a Wild Card position. After two down seasons that saw him rank near the bottom of MLB in offensive contributions, Walker has hit .297/.367/.585 with 15 homers and a 168 wRC+ through 51 games. His offensive resurgence has helped push the Cardinals’ playoff odds from 8.5% to 27.6% in just two months.
Walker’s journey has been anything but smooth. Drafted 21st overall in 2020, he was once considered one of baseball’s top five prospects. He made his MLB debut in 2023 at age 20 and hit .277/.346/.455 with 16 home runs in 117 games. But after being moved from third base to right field, Walker struggled, was sent to Triple-A, and never fully regained his footing. From 2024-25, he hit a dreadful .211/.270/.324 with a 30.7% strikeout rate and ranked last in fWAR among MLB hitters with over 550 plate appearances.
Last September, hitting coach Brant Brown and manager Oliver Marmol called for more from Walker. Brown said Walker would “have to devote more focus on preparation” and Marmol added, “I’m nowhere close to giving up on Jordan Walker.” New Cardinals president Chaim Bloom, who took over from John Mozeliak, also remained optimistic. In March, Bloom said, “Jordan’s process this offseason is as good as I’ve seen since I’ve been in this organization.”
That preparation has paid off. Walker has slashed his strikeout rate to 25.7% and raised his walk rate to 9.2%. Statcast metrics show Walker is hitting fly balls at a 44.3% clip, up from 37.5% in his first three seasons, which has unlocked his elite bat speed and power potential. He ranks in the 93rd percentile in expected slugging and the 90th in expected wOBA, making his offensive surge look sustainable.
Defensively, Walker has improved but remains inconsistent. He has posted 6 DRS in 49 starts in right field and recorded a league-high five outfield assists, including a highlight-reel throw to nab Brewers’ Christian Yelich at the plate. However, his OAA and FRV remain negative at minus-2 apiece.
With Walker hitting 15 homers and driving in 32 runs, the Cardinals have a clear offensive leader. If he continues this pace, he could become a priority extension candidate for Bloom this winter. The next test comes this weekend when St. Louis hosts the Boston Red Sox in a key three-game series.

The Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Montreal Canadiens 3-2 in Game 3 of their playoff series on May 26, 2026, with a commanding 38-13 shot advantage that exposed flaws in Montreal’s conservative game plan. Key performers included Martin St. Louis, who guided the Canadiens’ structured offense, and L
