Rangers outfielder Wyatt Langford left Friday’s 8-7 loss to the Dodgers in the fifth inning due to tightness in his right quadriceps. The injury occurred after Langford hit a home run off Tyler Glasnow, and he will undergo an MRI to determine the extent of the issue.
Langford told reporters, including Shawn McFarland of the Dallas Morning News, that he felt the injury was “pretty minor.” He described the moment as one where he had to “reach down” to make contact with Glasnow’s pitch, which led to discomfort in his quad. The issue became more pronounced as he rounded the bases. Langford remained in left field for the bottom of the fifth but was replaced by Ezequiel Duran in the sixth inning.
The injury adds to a frustrating start for Langford in the 2026 season. Through 53 plate appearances, he has just nine hits, batting .170/.185/.340. His exit velocity and hard-contact numbers remain at or above league average, suggesting a low .205 BABIP could be partly to blame. However, he has also struggled with plate discipline, drawing just one walk while striking out 13 times.
Langford was expected to have a breakout third season after hitting .247/.335/.423 with 38 home runs in his first 1130 plate appearances. The quad tightness would be his fifth IL stint in his young career. McFarland notes that all previous four placements were due to soft tissue injuries, a hamstring strain in 2024 and three separate oblique strains in 2025.
With Langford sidelined, Ezequiel Duran, Sam Haggerty, and Andrew McCutchen are likely to see time in left field. The Rangers will need production from this group to stay competitive in a tightly contested AL West. The Dodgers, meanwhile, continue to build momentum, winning their 12th game in 14 tries.
The Rangers are set to face the Rockies on Saturday at 6:40 PM CT. A decision on Langford’s status will likely come after the MRI results are reviewed.

The San Antonio Spurs edged the Dallas Mavericks 114-109 on Friday night, but the story was not the win. It was Victor Wembanyama’s 40-point, 13-rebound performance in just 26 minutes, a calculated move to reach the 65-game threshold required for regular-season award eligibility.
