The Padres placed infielder/designated hitter Miguel Andujar on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain retroactive to June 11. To fill his roster spot, San Diego selected outfielder Nick Solak from Triple-A El Paso. The move brings the Padres to a full 40-man roster.
Andujar, 31, suffered the injury during a game against the Mets on June 9. He managed only two plate appearances over the past week before being shut down. The setback is a major blow for a player who signed a one-year, $4.5 million deal with the Padres in the offseason. Andujar hit .348 in April with a .925 OPS but has seen his performance decline sharply, posting a .254/.288/.418 line with a .285 BABIP in 198 plate appearances.
The right-handed Andujar was a key bat against left-handed pitching in 2025, posting a .389/.409/.578 line and a 171 wRC+ against southpaws. This season, however, he has fared better against righties, with a 104 wRC+ versus just 76 against lefties. His struggles have been compounded by limited defensive opportunities, as he has mostly served as a DH.
With Andujar sidelined, Will Wagner will start his fourth consecutive game at DH Saturday against the Orioles. Wagner has taken on a more prominent role in the Padres’ lineup as the season has progressed.
Nick Solak, 31, replaces Andujar on the active roster. The former Ranger, Brave, and Pirate has seen limited action in the majors since 2023, with just 15 plate appearances over the past three seasons. In 985 career plate appearances, Solak has hit .250/.325/.369 with 21 home runs and a 91 wRC+.
This season with Triple-A El Paso, Solak has hit .340/.419/.522 with nine home runs and five stolen bases in 237 plate appearances. His performance in the hitter-friendly PCL has been 31 percent better than average. Solak has defensive experience at second base and both corner outfield spots, though he has typically struggled at the defensive end.
Solak is not in the lineup for Saturday’s game. The Padres are starting Samad Taylor and Jase Bowen in the outfield corners. The team will continue to monitor Andujar’s injury status and decide on his next steps following the IL stint.
