Red Bull New York 2, Inter Miami CF 2
Adri Mehmeti scored his first MLS goal and Julian Hall recorded two assists as Red Bull New York stunned Lionel Messi and Inter Miami in a 2-2 draw. The 17-year-old Mehmeti and 18-year-old Hall led the charge for RBNY, who held their own against one of the league's most star-studded lineups.
Miami took the lead in the 53rd minute via Mateo Silvetti, then extended it through the long-awaited goal from winter signing Germán Berterame. But Red Bulls responded with a Jorge Ruvalcaba goal in the 64th and Mehmeti's finish in the 71st, assisted by Hall. Hall's performance was a breakout moment for the homegrown teen, who helped keep RBNY undefeated at 3-0-2 on the season.
"We’re really proud of these guys," said Red Bulls head coach Michael Bradley. "We have challenged them in big ways... They continue to show that they’re going to respond in every moment and be up for everything that gets thrown at them."
Portland Timbers 2, LAFC 1
Kevin Kelsy scored deep into stoppage time to give the Portland Timbers a dramatic 2-1 win over LAFC. The Timbers ended a five-game winless streak, while LAFC suffered their first loss of the season. Jude Terry made his MLS debut with a goal, and Kristoffer Velde opened the scoring for Portland.
LAFC had a late winner disallowed by VAR for offside, but Kelsy’s 89th-minute header sealed the victory. The result may have saved head coach Phil Neville’s job in Portland, as the team improved to 2-2-2, while LAFC fell to 4-1-1.
Colorado Rapids 6, Houston Dynamo FC 2
The Colorado Rapids dominated at home, defeating the Houston Dynamo 6-2 in a high-scoring affair. Rafa Navarro and Kosi Thompson each scored two goals, while Josh Atencio netted his first career goal. Colorado now has 12 goals in three home games, the most in MLS.
“It was incredible. What a night here,” said Atencio. “From minute 1 to minute 90, I felt like the crowd was doing an amazing job giving us energy on the field.”
Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2, New York City FC 0
Brian White scored his sixth goal of the season to lead Vancouver to a 2-0 win over NYCFC. The Whitecaps extended their best start in club history to 5-0-1, while NYCFC dropped to 3-1-2.
San Jose Earthquakes 3, Sporting Kansas City 1
Jack Skahan scored two goals for the first time in his career as the Earthquakes edged Sporting Kansas City 3-1. The Quakes moved to 4-1-1 and are now the top team in the West behind their balanced attack.
What’s next:
Red Bull New York host the Chicago Fire next weekend, while Inter Miami travel to face Nashville SC. Portland faces a crucial match against the New England Revolution, and Colorado will host Lionel Messi and Miami in a 30-anniversary special at Empower Field.
