CF Montréal have fired head coach Marco Donadel and named Philippe Eullaffroy as interim head coach, the club announced Sunday. The decision comes seven matches into the 2026 MLS season, with Montréal sitting in 14th place in the Eastern Conference with just one win in seven games.
Donadel, who took over as full-time head coach in late October 2025, is the third head coach to be dismissed in two and a half years. He replaces Laurent Courtois, who was fired in March 2025, and follows Hernán Losada, who was let go after the 2023 season. Donadel’s tenure ended with a 9W-23L-10D record across all competitions, including a 1-6-0 start to 2026.
Montréal’s struggles in 2026 have been stark. The team began the season on a six-game road trip and returned home for a 2-1 loss to the Philadelphia Union on Saturday. That result drops them to 14th in the Eastern Conference with just three points from seven matches. Their only win this season came on the road in a 1-0 victory over the New England Revolution in their second game of the season.
Donadel was named interim head coach in March 2025 after the club parted ways with Courtois. He remained in the role for the remainder of the 2025 campaign and was then handed the full-time job. Under his leadership, Montréal finished 13th in the Eastern Conference with 28 points and failed to qualify for the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs.
Eullaffroy, a former Montréal player and assistant coach, will now take charge of the team. The 60-year-old Frenchman has previously served in interim roles with the club and brings experience as a familiar face during this transition.
Montréal will host five of their remaining seven MLS games before the 2026 FIFA World Cup break. Their next match is on April 18 against Red Bull New York at 2:30 pm ET on Apple TV. Key players like striker Prince Owusu, midfielder Iván Jaime, center back Efraín Morales, and goalkeeper Thomas Gillier will be critical in the coming weeks as the club looks to turn things around.
The club has yet to announce a timeline for a permanent head coach hire.
