Illinois guard Keaton Wagler has entered the Early Entry Candidate pool for the 2026 NBA Draft. The 6-foot-6 freshman is currently ranked fifth on ESPN's Top 100 prospects for this year's draft class.
Wagler played in 37 games during his lone season with the Fighting Illini. The versatile guard averaged 17.9 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game. His all-around impact was clear from the start, as he quickly became one of the most dynamic players in the Big Ten.
Wagler showcased elite shooting ability throughout the season. He shot 44.5 percent from the field, 39.7 percent from three-point range and 79.6 percent from the free-throw line. His ability to create his own shot and make plays for others made him a dual threat on offense.
The 20-year-old guard from St. Louis brings a unique combination of size and skill to the NBA level. His 6-foot-6 frame with a long wingspan allows him to play guard or forward in modern NBA lineups. Scouts have compared his game to current NBA players who thrive in transition and can stretch the floor.
Wagler’s decision to enter the draft adds another elite prospect to the 2026 class. Other top prospects include Scooter McLean and Terrance Shannon, who are currently ranked first and second on the ESPN board. The early entry window gives Wagler and other players a chance to test the waters before finalizing their decisions.
NBA teams are already evaluating how Wagler fits into their long-term plans. His scoring efficiency and playmaking ability could make him a top-10 pick if he continues to develop. With his size and shooting range, he could be an ideal fit for teams looking for a modern wing.
Wagler has until April 29 to withdraw from the draft and return to college. If he stays in the pool, he will be eligible to be scouted and contacted by NBA teams. The 2026 NBA Draft is scheduled for June 26.
