The New York Knicks edged the San Antonio Spurs 105-97 in Game 2 of the NBA Finals, drawing an average of 16.43 million viewers on ABC. The audience was the largest for a Game 2 of the Finals since the 2018 Golden State Warriors-Cleveland Cavaliers matchup. The game peaked at 19.42 million viewers during the Knicks’ late surge.
Jalen Brunson led the Knicks with 28 points and 10 assists, while Julius Randle added 20 points and 12 rebounds. The Knicks’ defense held the Spurs to just 41% shooting, limiting their star duo of Victor Wembanyama and Dejounte Murray to a combined 36 points.
The Spurs, who had won Game 1, struggled to find rhythm early. Wembanyama finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds but was held to 5-for-14 shooting. Murray managed 19 points and 10 assists but was inefficient from the floor, shooting 8-for-22.
A pivotal moment came in the third quarter when the Knicks went on a 12-2 run to take control. Brunson knocked down back-to-back three-pointers to stretch the lead to 10 points, silencing the Spurs’ comeback hopes.
The Knicks improved to 2-0 in the Finals, while the Spurs dropped to 1-2. The series is now tied at one game apiece, with Game 3 set for Monday night in San Antonio.
ABC’s coverage of the game drew the third-largest NBA audience since 2019, trailing only the 22.4 million for Game 1 and the 19.4 million for last year’s Game 7. The network remains the most-watched platform for the Finals, with a strong viewership trend continuing into the second week of the series.
The Knicks are now 3-0 in Finals games at home this season, while the Spurs are 1-2 in road games. Both teams will look to gain momentum heading into Game 3.
Game 3 tips off Monday at 9 p.m. ET from San Antonio’s AT&T Center.
