The Houston Rockets announced a new uniform design inspired by their 1994 and 1995 NBA championship teams, which featured the iconic red-and-yellow "ketchup and mustard" color scheme. The redesign will debut during the 2026-27 season and includes updated versions of the home white, road red, and black alternate jerseys. The uniforms aim to honor the legacy of Hall of Famer Hakeem Olajuwon and the franchise’s most successful era.
The new look revives the "Championship Yellow" trim across all three jerseys. Pinstripes are also included on every version. The design pays homage to the Rockets’ back-to-back titles, which were won under coach Rudy Tomjanovich and with Olajuwon leading the team in scoring and rebounding both years. Olajuwon averaged 27.3 points and 10.9 rebounds per game in 1994 and 26.7 points and 10.5 rebounds in 1995.
Rockets vice chairman Patrick Fertitta credited fan feedback for the return of the classic look. "We heard our fans... ketchup and mustard is back!" Fertitta said. "From the time my family bought the team in 2017, we've heard from countless fans about how deeply these colors are tied to memories of Rockets basketball."
The uniforms also feature the "Dunkstronaut" logo, which the team says represents a blend of nostalgia and innovation. The logo connects the Rockets to Houston’s identity as a city known for space exploration. The white and black jerseys will display "Houston" across the chest, while the red road uniform will read "Rockets."
The 1994 and 1995 Rockets teams remain among the most successful in franchise history. In 1994, the team won 58 games during the regular season and defeated the New York Knicks in the NBA Finals. The following year, Houston won 57 games and took down the Indiana Pacers for the second consecutive title. The return of the classic color scheme is expected to generate excitement among longtime fans and attract a new generation of supporters.
The Rockets will finalize the uniform production process in the coming months. The new kits are set to debut in the 2026-27 season, which tips off in October 2026.
