Kelsey Mitchell has signed a one-year, $1.4 million supermax contract with the Indiana Fever. The agreement keeps the veteran guard with the team that drafted her second overall in 2018. Mitchell's deal is the largest possible for a player under 28 years old who has been with the same team for at least four seasons.
Mitchell had a career season in 2025, earning All-WNBA honors while leading the Fever to the WNBA semifinals. She averaged a league-best 20.1 points per game, the first player in Fever history to reach that mark in a regular season. Mitchell also contributed 3.4 assists and 1.8 rebounds per game while finishing fifth in MVP voting.
Her performance translated to a Player Efficiency Rating of 19.9, one of the top marks in the league. The Fever leaned heavily on Mitchell during the season due to the injuries of Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham. Despite the absences, Indiana remained competitive throughout the playoffs.
Mitchell's new contract reflects her value as one of the league’s premier playmakers. The supermax deal is fully guaranteed and will not impact the Fever’s future cap flexibility. With the WNBA’s salary cap rising in 2026, Indiana gains stability at a key position.
The Fever selected Mitchell from Ohio State with the second overall pick in 2018. Over seven seasons, she has become the face of the franchise. Her leadership and scoring ability helped carry the team during a difficult 2025 season.
Mitchell’s re-signing sends a clear signal that the Fever are building around their core. With Clark and Cunningham expected to return to full health, the team is positioned to make another deep playoff run. The WNBA regular season is set to begin in May 2026.

The San Antonio Spurs edged the Dallas Mavericks 114-109 on Friday night, but the story was not the win. It was Victor Wembanyama’s 40-point, 13-rebound performance in just 26 minutes, a calculated move to reach the 65-game threshold required for regular-season award eligibility.
