The Chicago Bears’ 2026 rookie class is expected to bolster the defense and add depth at tight end. First-round safety Dillon Thieneman is projected to start, while third-round tight end Sam Roush could become a reliable backup behind Colston Loveland. Meanwhile, third-rounder Zavion Thomas is seen as a potential bust due to competition and lack of standout traits.
Dillon Thieneman, a versatile safety from Oregon, is expected to step into a starting role immediately. The Bears selected him in the first round to strengthen their secondary, which struggled to limit yards in 2025. Thieneman excels in deep coverage with elite ball skills and range. At 6'2", 210 pounds, he has the size to play both free and strong safety. While he shows promise as a run defender, his lack of bulk may limit his effectiveness against NFL backs unless he adds 10–15 pounds in the offseason.
Sam Roush, a third-round tight end from Stanford, is a well-rounded prospect who should contribute as a blocking tight end. At 6'5", 255 pounds, Roush is one of the most physically imposing tight ends in his class. His ability to seal the edge and create running lanes should make him a valuable asset to the Bears' ground game. While he lacks elite speed, his size and hands make him a reliable target in the red zone. Roush is projected to serve as a Y-technique tight end and a solid No. 2 behind Loveland.

Zavion Thomas, a third-round receiver from LSU, faces an uphill battle to make the 53-man roster. The Bears drafted him with hopes of developing him into a starter, but with Rome Odunze, Luther Burden, and Kaliff Raymond already on the roster, Thomas lacks the elite traits to overtake them. His lack of size and top-end speed makes him a risky investment at his draft slot.
While the Bears did not draft any boom pick candidates, Thieneman and Roush are expected to be solid starters and contributors. The team’s focus on depth and immediate impact should help them stabilize key positions in 2026.

The Bears will now turn their attention to the 2026 NFL Draft, with the first round set for April 26.
