T.J. Parker and Akeem Mesidor are among the most polarizing defensive ends in the 2026 NFL Draft, with teams divided on whether either will hear their names called on opening night. Both players carry second-round grades from the majority of scouts but could find themselves in the first round due to the NFL’s annual need to fill 32 picks. The debate centers on upside, durability, and how each fits into a team’s long-term plans at edge rusher.
Parker, a 6’4”, 255-pound pass rusher from Clemson, brings a blend of power and youth to the table. He owns the c-gap in the run game and has the frame to develop into a three-down threat. However, his production dipped in 2025, where he recorded just 5.5 sacks after 9.0 in 2024. His college numbers still include 27.5 tackles for loss over two seasons. An AFC area scout said, “Most teams have second round grades on TJ, but lots of guys with second round grades get taken since most teams typically have 14-18 guys slotted in the first round on their board.”
Mesidor, a 6’5”, 260-pounder from Miami, has drawn mixed reviews due to his age and injury history. He will be 23 by the start of the 2026 season, making him older for a rookie. Mesidor dealt with a torn ACL in 2022 and missed part of 2023, but he bounced back with 6.5 sacks and 14 tackles for loss in 2025. “I’m not a big Mesidor fan,” said the same scout. “Age and durability concern me, and think he’s a finished product. I think he’ll be a good role player, but not a guy I’m fired up to take in the top 40. So for me that’s back of 2/early 3, but other guys are higher on him than I am.”

An AFC general manager said Mesidor no, but Parker maybe could be a first-rounder. Three other team sources said they did not think Parker would go in the first, but they thought Mesidor would be selected on the opening night of the draft.
In my latest 2026 NFL Mock Draft, I have one of these edge rushers going in the first and the other sliding to midway through the second round. Both players are on the bubble of being opening night picks as neither one is a consensus first-round pick with NFL teams.

As the draft approaches, teams will evaluate how each fits their scheme and long-term plans. The debate between Parker’s upside and Mesidor’s experience will continue to evolve in the coming weeks.

The San Antonio Spurs edged the Dallas Mavericks 114-109 on Friday night, but the story was not the win. It was Victor Wembanyama’s 40-point, 13-rebound performance in just 26 minutes, a calculated move to reach the 65-game threshold required for regular-season award eligibility.
