TITLE: Dolphins RB De'Von Achane Absent From Offseason Program Amid Contract Talks
Miami Dolphins running back De’Von Achane did not attend the start of the team’s voluntary offseason workout program on Tuesday. Head coach Jeff Hafley confirmed the absence but declined to provide further details, stating the matter was a business decision between Achane and the front office.
Achane, 24, is in his third NFL season and is eligible for a contract extension this summer. His absence is widely believed to be related to ongoing contract negotiations. When asked about the situation, Hafley deflected to the front office but indicated the issue was routine.
"Those are talks for another time between Achane, Sully (Dolphins GM Jon-Eric Sullivan) and those guys," Hafley said. "I'm not going to dive into those talks right now. That's part of the business, it's part of what every team goes through in those situations, and they'll work it out."
The Dolphins have made it clear they view Achane as a key part of their future. Last week at the Annual League Meeting, Sullivan stated there were no plans to trade the 2023 third-round pick.
"There is zero effort on my end to move Achane," Sullivan said. "He is a building block for us, and signing him to a contract extension is a priority in the coming weeks or months."
Achane has emerged as one of the league’s most efficient rushers over his first two seasons. In 44 games (36 starts), he has rushed for 3,057 yards and 22 touchdowns while catching 172 passes for 1,277 yards and 13 touchdowns. His 5.7-yard rushing average led the NFL in 2024, and he finished fifth in the league with 1,350 rushing yards.
With Miami entering a rebuild, the Dolphins will need stability on both sides of the ball. Achane’s production and potential make him a critical piece of the puzzle. His contract status could impact Miami’s plans for the 2025 season and beyond.
The Dolphins’ mandatory minicamp is scheduled for June 2-4. Attendance for the current voluntary portion of the offseason program is optional. The team will have three weeks to resolve the situation before players must report.

The San Antonio Spurs edged the Dallas Mavericks 114-109 on Friday night, but the story was not the win. It was Victor Wembanyama’s 40-point, 13-rebound performance in just 26 minutes, a calculated move to reach the 65-game threshold required for regular-season award eligibility.
