TITLE: Harbaugh Unfazed by Dexter Lawrence's Trade Request; Giants Want to Keep Star DT
John Harbaugh is not surprised by Dexter Lawrence's trade request and is not ruling out a resolution that keeps the star defensive tackle in New York. The Giants head coach said Tuesday that the team wants Lawrence back and believes the defensive lineman also wants to stay, though he acknowledged there is "business involved" in the situation. Lawrence, who signed a four-year, $90 million extension in 2023, has two years remaining on his deal with base salaries of $18.5 million in 2026 and $18 million in 2027. His $22.5 million average per year ranks 11th among interior defenders.
Harbaugh confirmed he spoke with Lawrence when he was hired but has not had recent conversations with the three-time Pro Bowler. He said he was not surprised by the move, adding that he had "good conversations" with Lawrence's agent Joel Segal weeks ago. "We know it's pro football and these things happen every year," Harbaugh said. "Pretty much every team. So, not surprised by it."
The Giants have no clear replacement for Lawrence on their roster, and his presence is crucial to the defensive front. Last season, the defense struggled when he was off the field, and Harbaugh emphasized the importance of building the best team possible. "It's business. The business is to be the best football team we can be," he said.
Kayvon Thibodeaux, the team's edge rusher, has also been the subject of trade speculation. Harbaugh said Thibodeaux is a great player and is focused on how he will play on the field. "You want to talk about, 'Is he a trade possibility?' ... Everybody's tradable. Everybody," he said.
Malik Nabers and Cam Skattebo both attended the start of the Giants' voluntary offseason program. Skattebo is ahead in his rehab and could return this spring, while Nabers is expected to be back closer to training camp or the start of the season. Cornerback Paulson Adebo did not attend, and Harbaugh said it is his right to do so. Defensive lineman Sam Roberts was absent due to surgery that prevented him from traveling.
The Giants must resolve Lawrence's situation as the 2025 season approaches. His contract and on-field value make him a pivotal piece for Big Blue. The team will need to bridge the gap in negotiations to keep one of its top defenders.

The San Antonio Spurs edged the Dallas Mavericks 114-109 on Friday night, but the story was not the win. It was Victor Wembanyama’s 40-point, 13-rebound performance in just 26 minutes, a calculated move to reach the 65-game threshold required for regular-season award eligibility.
