The Springfield Thunderbirds secured a 2-0 victory over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in Game 4 of the Atlantic Division finals, evening the best-of-five series at 2-2 and forcing a decisive Game 5 on Saturday.
The Thunderbirds came into the game down 2-1 in the series and facing elimination for the fourth time this postseason. But they responded with a strong performance, outlasting the Penguins in a tight defensive battle. Georgii Romanov was the standout performer, posting 20 saves for his second playoff shutout of the year and seventh career postseason win.
Dillon Dube broke the scoreless deadlock with a power-play goal at 16:14 of the second period. It was his third of the series and fifth of the playoffs, continuing his strong play that has helped keep Springfield in the series. Just over three minutes later, Marc-André Gaudet extended the lead with a goal of his own, marking his first tally since March 11 and giving Springfield a commanding 2-0 lead.

The Penguins countered with a game from Sergei Murashov, who stopped 30 shots in the loss. It marked the first time since May 6, 2016, that Wilkes-Barre/Scranton had been shut out in a playoff game. Springfield's defense, led by Lucas Armstrong and the team's blue line, held strong all night, limiting the Penguins to just one shot in the first period.
With the win, Springfield improved to 3-0 in games where they faced elimination this postseason and 4-0 following a playoff loss. The Thunderbirds have now found a way to win in crunch time, showing the kind of resilience that will be needed in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Game 5 will be played Saturday at 6:05 ET at PPG Paints Arena in Wilkes-Barre. The winner of the series will advance to the next round and take on the winner of the North Division finals. The Penguins have not lost a home playoff game in the series so far, but Springfield is determined to make the trip back to Massachusetts a long one.
