The Toronto Marlies defeated the Syracuse Crunch 4-1 at the Upstate Medical University Arena on Thursday night. Jakob Pelletier extended his AHL-leading points streak to 20 consecutive games with an assist. The Crunch remain three points back of the North Division lead with two games left in the regular season.
Pelletier's streak is the longest in the AHL since the 2006-07 season and continues to draw attention as he becomes a key name in the Calder Cup discussion. Dylan Duke scored the Crunch's only goal on the power play, his 18th of the season which ranks first in the league. Duke’s goal came just 2:43 into the game, giving the Crunch an early lead.
Toronto responded with two quick goals to take control. Chas Sharpe converted on a setup from Brandon Baddock at 5:12 of the first. Alex Nylander added a second goal for the Marlies at 12:13, a wrister from the high slot that beat Crunch goaltender Brandon Halverson.
Halverson finished with 17 saves on 20 shots. Dennis Hildeby earned the win for Toronto, stopping 27 of 28 shots. The Crunch killed off their only penalty while Toronto went 0-for-1 on the power play. Syracuse converted on one of two chances but could not match Toronto’s efficiency.
The second period was scoreless, but the Marlies extended their lead in the third. Borya Valis scored during a scramble in front of Halverson at 8:24. With just over a minute left, Nylander netted his second of the game into an empty net to seal the 4-1 victory.

Syracuse now stands at 40-23-3-4 on the season. The Crunch complete their four-game season series against Toronto with a 1-2-1-0 record. They trail the North Division by three points with two games remaining.
Nylander led the Marlies with a two-goal game and a plus-2 rating. Pelletier’s 20-game points streak continues as he adds to his total. Duke’s 18 power-play goals remain a league high.
The Crunch will face the Belleville Senators on Friday at the Senators’ home rink. The game is the first of a two-game home-and-home series that will conclude on Saturday in Syracuse.
