Micheal Hage will likely sign his entry-level contract with the Montreal Canadiens after completing his sophomore season at the University of Michigan. With the Wolverines eliminated from the NCAA Frozen Four, the 19-year-old center is now free to turn pro and join the Canadiens organization.
Hage put together one of the best seasons from any college player in the 2025-26 campaign. He recorded 13 goals, 38 assists and 51 points in 38 games. His 51 points ranked among the top producers in the NCAA and helped lead Michigan to a strong overall season. The Canadiens selected Hage with the 11th overall pick in 2024 and have been tracking his development closely.
Sources including Renaud Lavoie and Eric Engels report that Hage is expected to finalize his pro move in the coming days. Lavoie noted that Hage played through a lower-body injury for much of the season but still performed at a high level. His production and maturity have impressed scouts and coaches alike.
The Canadiens now face a key decision: sign Hage immediately and begin his ELC this season or let him return to Michigan for another year of development. With the team currently in the playoffs and fighting for home-ice advantage, the timing could be perfect for Hage to make his NHL debut as early as this weekend.
Steven Ellis of Daily Faceoff highlighted Hage’s strengths and areas for growth. “Hage isn’t a true burner, but he’s still a strong skater overall. His pace has improved, allowing him to backcheck more frequently. Defensively, his game has come a long way, although it still needs some work to come close to, say, Suzuki’s level. And that’s fine – Montreal’s coaching staff can figure that out with him.”

Hage is considered a future top-six center with elite playmaking ability, size and two-way instincts. While he may not be a top-six player right away, his long-term potential is clear. The Canadiens have Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield in their current core, but Hage could provide a fresh dynamic in the coming years.
The next 48-72 hours will be critical. Once Hage makes his decision, the Canadiens are expected to act quickly. Whether he signs now or returns to college, his future with the team appears bright.

The San Antonio Spurs edged the Dallas Mavericks 114-109 on Friday night, but the story was not the win. It was Victor Wembanyama’s 40-point, 13-rebound performance in just 26 minutes, a calculated move to reach the 65-game threshold required for regular-season award eligibility.
