The U.S. Men’s National Team is one month away from kicking off the 2026 World Cup on home soil, and on May 26, U.S. Soccer will officially announce which 26 players will represent the nation. Head coach Mauricio Pochettino faces a tough decision with over 35 players vying for a spot. With the roster locked in soon, speculation is high about who will make the final cut.
Pochettino has a clear vision for the team’s goalkeeping trio: Matt Freese (New York City FC) will start, Matt Turner (New England Revolution) will back him up, and Chris Brady (Chicago Fire) is expected to claim the third spot. Brady edged out Patrick Schulte (Columbus Crew) and Roman Celentano (FC Cincinnati) after being named to the March roster and showing strong club form.
Defensively, Chris Richards (Crystal Palace), Antonee Robinson (Fulham), and Tim Ream (Charlotte FC) are locks. Alex Freeman (Villarreal), Max Arfsten (Columbus Crew), Mark McKenzie (Toulouse), and Auston Trusty (Celtic) are also expected to make the cut. In midfield, Tyler Adams (Bournemouth), Weston McKennie (Juventus), and Malik Tillman (Bayer Leverkusen) are the top picks. Aidan Morris (Middlesbrough) and Diego Luna (Real Salt Lake) are also expected to be included. Despite his club struggles, Gio Reyna (Borussia Mönchengladbach) is predicted to earn a spot based on his national team performances.
Up front, Christian Pulisic (AC Milan) is a key figure despite a recent scoring slump. Tim Weah (Marseille) and Brendan Aaronson (Leeds United) are locks, while Folarin Balogun (Monaco), Ricardo Pepi (PSV Eindhoven), and Haji Wright (Coventry City) are expected to fill out the final spots. Patrick Agyemang’s injury has simplified the decision for Pochettino.
