Giannis Antetokounmpo's trade request has reignited blockbuster speculation as the NBA trade market heats up. The Miami Heat remain the frontrunners to land the two-time MVP, but the Milwaukee Bucks are holding out for a better offer. Boston Celtics have entered the mix, but their interest faces major hurdles.
Brian Windhorst of ESPN said on Monday's Get Up that “the league believes this is finally going to happen.” Antetokounmpo, who has one year left on his contract, is focused on joining the Heat. “He has focused on wanting to be a member of the Miami Heat,” Windhorst said. “Because he only has one year on his contract, he has some control over that.”
The Heat have reportedly offered a package centered around Tyler Herro, Kel'el Ware, Jaime Jacquez Jr., and the No. 13 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. Herro, a 24-year-old guard who averaged 18.7 points per game last season, is a key piece in Miami's offer. Ware, a 19-year-old forward, and Jacquez, a 22-year-old two-way guard, add young assets to the deal.
The Bucks, however, are not satisfied with Miami’s current offer. According to Windhorst, “the Heat and the Bucks have been talking for months and not agreed to a deal, because the Bucks don’t love the Heat’s offer.” Milwaukee is reportedly exploring other trade scenarios, including offers from third and fourth teams.
The Boston Celtics have also entered the conversation. A potential trade involving Jaylen Brown would require major roster changes for Boston. Brown, who averaged 21.3 points and 5.3 assists last season, is one of the core pieces of a team that finished 57-25 in 2023-24. “You would be breaking up, potentially, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown,” Windhorst said. “It would mean changing the entire structure of how the Celtics play basketball.”
The Celtics offer has not yet reached the table, but their interest adds another layer of complexity to the trade race. With the draft one week away and free agency on the horizon, teams are under pressure to finalize deals.
Giannis will be a free agent this summer and is expected to sign with whichever team trades for him. The Bucks are holding out hope for a better offer, while the Heat and Celtics continue to negotiate.
The NBA trade deadline for draft-day deals is Friday, June 21. Teams will have until that date to finalize any trade involving draft picks.

Top NBA draft prospect Darryn Peterson has limited pre-draft meetings to the Washington Wizards, who hold the first overall pick in the June 23 draft, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania and Jeremy Woo. The decision sets up a potential blockbuster night as Peterson and projected top prospect AJ Dyban
