The Green Bay Packers' running back room has suddenly become a hot topic in fantasy football circles. With Josh Jacobs facing five domestic abuse charges, the door is open for Chris Brooks or Marshawn Lynch to step into a larger role. Fantasy managers must act quickly as the situation remains fluid and could shift dramatically depending on the NFL’s response and the legal outcome.
Jacobs, who was drafted by the Packers in 2024, has averaged 1,124 rushing yards and 7.8 fantasy points per game over his two seasons. His 2025 campaign saw him finish as a top-12 RB in standard leagues, with 14 total touchdowns and a 4.6 yards-per-carry average. However, his current legal troubles make him a risky pick in early rounds. Fantasy analysts are moving fast, with some dropping him in more than 20% of Yahoo leagues as of May 27.
Chris Brooks, the team’s third-string back, has shown glimpses of potential in limited action. Over 55 career snaps in 2025, he averaged 3.9 yards per carry and caught 12 of 14 targets for 78 yards. His role could expand significantly if Jacobs is suspended. Brooks is a safer bet for a modest floor, with upside if he earns a larger workload.
Marshawn Lynch, a veteran with 1,093 rushing yards in 2025, has more experience and could take over as the starter if Jacobs is sidelined. Lynch’s 2025 season included a 4.3 yards-per-carry average and 41 receptions for 342 yards. He has the physical tools and veteran savvy to handle a lead back role, though his age (33) and injury history raise concerns about durability.

The NFL has yet to announce any formal investigation into Jacobs’ case. If the league delays action, Jacobs could remain active for the start of the regular season. Fantasy managers should monitor the situation closely and be prepared to adjust rosters accordingly. Jacobs could still be on the field as early as Week 1 if the NFL takes no immediate action.
For now, Brooks and Lynch are both viable late-round options in most formats. Fantasy owners with multiple leagues can afford to take a flier on both. If Jacobs is suspended for more than two games, one of these two will step up. Keep an eye on NFLPA and league statements for the next update, expected by June 3 at the latest.
